Beautiful Ties and Bittersweet Memories

“Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.” ― Shannon Alder

The above photographs are from my time in country Orange, where I visited my loving Pa and family. I’m grateful to have seen my Pa when I did; more in the last few months than in years.

I am at a loss in many ways, but eternally grateful to have shared infinitely beautiful moments with him that I will treasure for life, as we’re saying goodbye for now. I’m blessed to have had 27 years on earth with him, but I thought we might have a little more time left in us to celebrate our birthdays and even Christmas, but someone else has other plans.

He’s had a wonderful life but it is excruciating to watch a beautiful soul slip slowly into the night. The worse reality would have been to never have known him at all. I wish I could be by his side every moment until he says his final goodnight but I hope he feels my love across the divide.

Each new day, I feel a new light from from his wisdom and the memories I share with him… and a reminder to laugh and smile, because his wit and his smile were more infectious than I can say.

I will keep my Pa’s mischievous spirit with me now and forever.

He will always hold a special place in my heart.

Thank you Pa, I love you.

“Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
― Dylan Thomas
